We worked with SocialOffset to select four vetted charities that support hunger relief, reproductive freedom, racial justice and LGBTQ+Equality in New Orleans, LA.
Hunger Relief – Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana
leads the fight against hunger and builds food security in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response.
Reproductive Freedom – Planned Parenthood New Orleans Health Center
delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of people worldwide. While abortion services are not available at our health centers, we are here to connect patients to out of state abortion providers to get the care they need.
Racial Justice – VERA Institute of Justice
advocates for alternatives to money bail in New York City, Vera is now a national organization that partners with impacted communities and government leaders for change.
LGBTQ+Equality – NO AIDS Task Force dba CrescentCare
strengthens our entire community through whole-person healthcare and education.

When you travel, every purchase you make generates tax revenue for a government that may make (or fail to make) policies that don’t align with your values. Giving to a local charity working towards the equity goals you care about can help balance the scale. What should you give? Based on ISHLT’s estimated spend per Leadership Meeting attendee and Florida’s state tax rate, SocialOffset suggested an offset contribution of $35 or more.
This is based on the following information:
11% per hotel room night (Florida’s state tax rate of 6%, and 1% tax for Pinellas County, and 5% tourist development tax)
7% sales tax per meal or beverage (Florida’s state tax rate of 6%, and 1% tax for Pinellas County)
7% sales tax per taxi (Florida’s state tax rate of 6%, and 1% tax for Pinellas County)
